Laden with trad-folk arrangements and ear candy for music theory lovers, Sage Christie's debut concept album Little Deaths is a poignantly honest novel in song form, in which narrator Sage processes post-divorce grief through a whirlwind romance in Kansas. Their trademark image-rich lyrics raise questions of impermanence, mortality, and the challenge of finding home within oneself. Yet what distinguishes Little Deaths from similar tales of grief and rebirth is Sage’s wide-eyed retelling of disarmingly intimate moments, and the mile-deep wells of radical compassion into which they often stumble and fall.
Sage Christie has been enchanting audiences nationwide since 2021. With a background in music theory and a lifelong love of folk music, Sage writes candid indie folk fairytales and sings them in a voice clear as a mountain stream. Sage's knack for melody and effortlessly poignant lyrics have made them a Kerrville New Folk finalist twice, and have drawn comparisons to songwriters such as Shawn Colvin, Cavetown, and, lately, Brandi Carlile.
“Little Deaths is precisely the kind of hidden gem that I seek out each year; a fearless and earnest record that couldn’t be made within the bigger music industry system. [...] It’s so autobiographical that it feels like you shouldn’t be hearing it; like a journal entry that you read before realizing that it wasn’t meant for you.”
— Kevin Sellers, This World Scares Me's Top 10 Records of 2025
“Christie excels lyrically on Little Deaths, breaking down intimate scenes from a short-lived relationship and relaying them in a relatable and image-rich fashion. [...] Musically this album is no slouch either. While largely a trad-folk album, Christie includes unexpected progressions and rich orchestration to great effect.”
